About

Sally He is a photographer and visual artist whose work explores the relationship between observation, memory, and material transformation.

Working between documentary photography and conceptual installation, her practice examines how images exist within larger systems of time, space, and human experience. Through quiet observation of everyday environments—cities, landscapes, and transient urban spaces—her photographs capture subtle moments where individual presence appears within broader social and spatial structures.

In recent years, her work has expanded into material-based installations. In the series Whispering, photographic images are embedded within transparent resin blocks, allowing light, distortion, and material processes to reshape the image. More recent experiments incorporate salt crystallization, metal corrosion, and reflective surfaces, exploring how images erode, transform, and reappear through physical materials.

Her documentary photography projects include the ongoing series 99¢ Pizza, which observes the everyday social life of New York’s iconic dollar pizza shops. The project was exhibited at Photoville.

She lives and works in New York.
